I was skeptical about these plastic clips but they actually hold up pretty well, as long as you don't over tighten the screws you put through them.

Once installed, they work as needed. I usually leave them up all year. When I reuse them, they tend to break if the rope light is not inserted carefully. I usually buy a set every other year to replace ones that break during reinstallation.
