Great product, good customer service I love this rope light. It gives off a very nice glow around our pool cage - bright enough to be its own light source while still adding a nice ambiance. It is just what I was looking for. The light does get quite warm, and combined with the Florida heat, we're hanging it with sheet metal screws and a metal wire clamp to our aluminum frame. On the customer service (I can leave good feedback, right??) I ordered a spool that ended up being stuck together about half way through. It was sticking together a bit from the start and got more pronounced further along. It could have been a shipping thing, a warehouse thing, or an us thing. We had turned it on very quickly to make sure it worked, and then after every 20 feet or so to quickly check for breaks. Around 75 feet out, it was impossible to unrole further. I contacted customer service, and they have replaced the spool for us. I am very impressed. Next time around, unspool the whole thing along the length you're going to install, check for breaks (and fix them with the included parts - pretty simple), and then hang. That was the lesson learned. May 22, 2012
The product arrived exactly as advertised. Conveniently wrapped on a spool for easy dispensing and retrieval of lights. February 22, 2012
Great if you know how it works This is a great product if you know how to use it. I downloaded the instructions but they were too vague and I ruined 48 feet trying to figure it out. The thing you have to know is where to cut it. If you do not cut it EXACTLY at the cut marks part of it will be dead, either from the plug or at the end of the run. You have to look carefully along the length of the rope light. There will be some writing and three hash marks- this is the only place you can cut and have it work. If you cut it anywhere else part of the run will be dead. They are not easy to see so you have to look carefully to find them. They occur at 2-3 feet intervals along the length of the rope light. If you cut it anywhere else- even at the end of the run- it will not work properly. So when you install it the first thing you do before anything else is find the cut marks marked along the length so you know what they look like. Once you understand how it works it is great but I was looking at the ribs in the pipe and dimples in the plastic thinking they were cut marks and got into a lot of trouble. It took a lot of looking to actually find the cut marks the instructions were referring to and since the instructions did not have a picture I had to figure it out myself. Just remember- they are three hash marks following a bit of writing. One more thing- there are two sets of writing on the Rope Light. Only one set is followed by hash marks and that is the ONLY place you can cut it. So before you do anything look at the rope light carefully until you find the cut marks. This will save you a lot of trouble if you do this first. November 12, 2011

Mounting Tips

Continuous flexing of rope light may damage its internal electrical connections. To avoid premature failure, mount rope light to sturdy surfaces such as wood or glass and reinforce it with a channel raceway or reflector trim of the correct diameter.

If you must install rope light on an unstable or moving surface such as trees or bushes, it is most cost-effective to use incandescent rope light, which can be replaced at a lower cost than LED rope light.

Movement of frozen rope lights may also damage electrical connections. Avoid installing or re-spooling rope light when temperatures are below freezing. The PVC tubing can become brittle in temperatures below 50 deg. F.

Note on UL Listing and Installation Safety

Please note that cutting this rope light, even following manufacturer instructions, will void the UL listing of the product. This, however, does not necessarily mean the product is unsafe.

If UL listing is an important concern for you or your organization either use the full length of the spool without cutting it or consider purchasing our shorter rope light "kits".

While 1000Bulbs.com encourages all creative use of rope lights, we assume no responsibility for problems arising from cutting rope light. Professional installation is always recommended.
