The Fulham Workhorse 5 is a total package design for low to moderate wattage needs. It can pretty much power any kind of light bulb you need. And since it is electronic, it runs silent which is always a plus. Could not do with the humms. The Workhorse 5 gets a little warm and could get hot if not in a properly ventilated area. I could rest my hand on the WH5 after it had been running for 8 hours, I was expecting an almost give you a blister type of hot. I was pleasantly surprised that it ran much cooler.

The only thing I did not like about the Workhorse 5 is there are no Blue wires and only one Yellow wire (no wiring instructions at all). Once I hooked the Blue wires from the lamp fixture to 2 of the Red wires from the ballast and both Yellow wires from the fixture to the single Yellow wire of the ballast everything worked fine. The replacement ballast is much lighter in weight, smaller in size and so far, has worked flawlessly! This ballast is used in an application where the lights are on for 12 or more hours at a time.

I'm glad I found Fulham fluorescent ballasts. Seems to be very high quality, very quiet, very competitively priced, and best of all runs practically a million different bulbs. I actually bought this one to run a 55W SOX low pressure sodium lamp for a full cutoff fixture design project, which it does very well. It's great for prototyping as well due to its versatility. Also ran a weird 40W T9 twin compact type insect zapper lamp perfectly. I'll definitely be sticking with Fulham for my projects and replacement needs, and 1000bulbs has pretty much the complete lineup, which is much more than a good bit of the other online retailers. It does run certain lamps with a lowish ballast factor if you dig around on fulham's website for spec papers, but I guess that's the tradeoff for being able to run so many different configurations.
