I bought these for a high school theater as an all-around replacement lamp that would fit ALL of their ERS fixtures. This school had a combination of mid-eighties era Berkey Colortran ellipsoidals (burning FELs), and newer Altman Shakespeares. Ideal for the Shakespeares, the GLE also worked very well in the older Berkey Colortran fixtures. After lamp adjustment, the Berkey Colortrans burning new GLEs were actually brighter than the same fixture burning FEL (and with a 25% power savings).
I imagine this would work with any brand of GLE. I tend to stick with "name brand" lamps, like GE, and only rarely encounter any manufacturing-related problems.
