Shape fits hard-to-fit lamps
I use these in our chandeliers and lamps where the bulbs are visible. The frosting makes the light soft; there's no bad glare if you look up at the chandelier. I prefer the low wattage like 15 - 25. They don't get as hot, and they are technically safer for light fixtures requiring multiple bulbs. This particular bulb is my favorite because of it's size and shape. It fits into lampwork with a tight space better than any other. The flame style tip curl on bulbs made for looks can only be used in lights with an open area above the bulb. It's far easier to just stock up on these slim smooth ones and use them for absolutely everything.
