I purchased these in a 25 watt hoping they would not have that brilliant center light that would be too bright behind a sheer fabric antique shade. Although better than the clear ones, they still give a very bright center glow. If you had a shade that would block this bright aspect it would be a fine bulb. I use them in other lamps like that where the clear ones worked just as well. You cannot find the frosted regular base at the big box hardware stores.
