As CFL bulbs improve, the wait is over with a dimmable and flicker-free bulb: this TCP Tru-Dim bulb is as advertised. The light is warm and bright, and that's what most people -- homeowners and apartment-dwellers, for example -- want out of their lighting. Plus, this bulb is thankfully an excellent source of dimmable lighting (it's best to have modern dimmer switches designed for CFL and LED bulbs). We use this bulb type in ceiling fixtures, for reading in the living room, then dim the bulb when watching a big-screen TV, for just the right amount of ambient lighting. In all, we use eight of these bulbs in the ceiling fixtures in two rooms, and they have worked perfectly. We use many CFL and a few LED bulbs elsewhere in the house, and we do notice our monthly electric bill is measurably lower these days, thanks to the new bulbs.

I've been buying TCP bulbs for a while and was excited to see the dimmable version come out. I have a lot of sockets in the house with dimmer switches and most CFLs don't work very well in them - they hum or flicker. The new TCP bulbs eliminate that problem and dim over the whole range of settings. I was especially happy to see that when you turn them on they come up to brightness very quickly - about a minute. Most other bulbs I've tried have taken a lot longer. Overall good functionality and I like the whiter light from the 3000K as opposed to the 2700K which is much yellower.
