Rated 5 out of 5 by A bulb for the ages, or aged! This bulb met all my wife's expectations for a non incandescent/non CFL PAR 38 recessed kitchen light replacement. The bright 'stark' white light illuminates with a central intensity that makes reading small print like serial numbers on products or or performing tasks that require the sharpest vision much easier. The surrounding zone of more diffused light helps blend the light between adjacent down spots, so there is plenty of light between. Presumably heat production is also less than CFLs of comparable wattage as they generally produce fewer lumens/watt. The CFLs have never delivered in terms of lumens and even longevity is often less than promised. The number of CFLs required to last as long plus the difference in cost of electricity more than make up for the high initial outlay. You really do get what you pay for. On top of that, the incredible waste in materials and properly disposing of twice as many CFL bulbs makes this LED a greener choice too. May 2, 2012
