We installed the first 5 bulbs into the kitchen recessed ceiling fixtures, and the first reaction was WOW! It takes a bit of time to get used to going from 60 watt incandescent and 14 watt florescent 2700K to these 100 watt equivalent 5000K bulbs. Its quite bright. We wanted as bright a light as possible, and the 2700K warm just doesn't provide that WOW factor.
We then installed 5 more in the hallway fixtures. We have 2 left that we could not install because they are in places that we can't safely put a ladder. Perhaps some day, someone really tall will come visit us.
These bulbs should last around 22 years under normal use, so they should last as long as any appliance in a home. Furthermore, if you want an environmentally friendly home, I recommend bypassing florescent, and go straight to LED for recessed ceiling bulbs. Of the available bulbs, Kobi's 5000K 100 watt equivalent best met our needs for both functionality and value.

I rarely write reviews but I'm genuinely thrilled with the light from this bulb. I am using it in recessed cans in a windowless basement. The 5000k 1100 lumen light from this bulb is as close to sunlight as I imagine I'll ever find from a bulb. Makes the whole space feel soo much better compared to the GE Reveal R30 bulbs that I was using previously. Even though it is a VERY bright bulb(don't plan to look directly at this bulb) I don't get the same harsh shadow line along the top of the walls of the room(making the room feel smaller) that is common with most recessed lights. It works perfectly with my dimmer switch. Please note: ALL LED and fluorescent bulbs lack the color shift to yellow that we've come to expect from a standard incandescent. Also, they only dim from about 100% to 10%. The net result is a dramatic reduction in lumens while keeping the 5000k color temperature. If you want the 'romantic' affect of a dim yellow light you are better off with scented candles.
This bulb is rated for 25,000 hours... which based on what I've read, means that it will produce about 70% of the initial lumens in about 8 or ten years. I suspect once I have a few more of these installed in my basement I'll feel a need to turn the dimmer down a bit and then over time as the bulbs lose lumens I'll be able to turn the dimmer back up and never know the difference. If you are afraid that 1100 lumens is too much just install a dimmer. You will be pleased. I'd like to compare this bulb with it's 2700k sibling, but that's mostly out of curiosity. I like the bright sunlight affect of this bulb and can't imagine preferring a warmer light.

This isn't the first Kobi bulb I've bought, and like the others, it doesn't disappoint. I have them in my living room in recessed cans. They look just like the incandescent bulbs they replace.
