CFL Grow Lights

A CFL grow light is an energy efficient alternative to metal halides. Mogul base CFLs can be placed up to 6” away from the plant without hurting the plant, compared to metal halides or HPS grow lights, which need to be kept 12”-18” away to avoid burns. CFL grow lights can be used during any phase of the grow cycle including propagation, growing, and flowering. While low watt cfl grow lights are predominantly used for offices and desk or table lamps, mogul base cfls are strong enough to be used in larger grow settings.

Selecting a Color Temperature

Plants grow differently under different color temperatures during the growth and flowering cycles. During propagation and the vegetative stage, plants need lights in the blue spectrum with a color temperature ideally 5000 Kelvin or higher to maximize dense foliage. CFL grow lights for the flowering stage are ideally between 2000-3000 Kelvin. Light in this range supports vertical growth (height) and flower developement.
