Delivering the same light output as 25-Watt T8 fluorescent tubes, these 3 ft. T8 LEDs last longer and use far less energy. Some tubes are dimmable, while others have a shatter-resistant coating that meets NSF requirements for food service. DLC certified 3 ft. T8 LED bulbs meet stricter energy efficiency standards and may qualify for state or local rebates.

T8 LED tubes 3 ft. in length are available in two types: direct wire and plug-and-play. To eliminate ballast compatibility issues and maintenance costs, look for direct wire 3 ft. T8 lamps. Operating directly off of line voltage, the ballast is removed and the fixture rewired to match the tube's operation. Single-ended operation requires power on one end of the fixture and non-shunted sockets. Double-ended operation keeps the existing sockets and needs power on both ends. For a quick and easy retrofit, choose plug-and-play 3 ft. T8 LEDs. These tubes use the existing ballast and sockets to operate, allowing you to simply plug the lamp in. You will need to check the compatibility PDF hyperlinked on the product's page before purchasing. Keep in mind that once the ballast reaches the end of its life, you need to either replace it or switch to a direct wire tube.

Choosing the Right 3 ft. T8 LED Bulb

To help narrow down your choices, be sure to consider both the color temperature (color of the light) and the safety rating. 3 ft. LED T8s that produce a 3000 to 3500 Kelvin light are more common in areas where a welcoming feel is desired such as lobbies and waiting rooms. Cooler 4000 to 5000 Kelvin light is used to help reduce eye strain and improve concentration in offices, classrooms, and warehouses. Safety ratings tell you what conditions the tubes can be used in. 3ft T8 LEDs rated for dry locations should only be used in indoor locations where no moisture or water is present. Damp location rated tubes can be used in areas like kitchens and bathrooms where moisture is present.
