Understanding Fluorescent Tube Sizes and Wattages

The "T" stands for the tubular shape of the bulb and the number after it is the diameter of the tube in eighths of an inch. T12 bulbs are 12 eighths of an inch, or 1.5 inches in diameter. The "F" signifies the tube is a fluorescent with the number following represents the wattage. The easiest way to figure out the size and wattage of your current bulb is by looking at the label on the end of the tube. However, if the label in no longer legible, measuring the diameter will work.

T12 Fluorescent Tube Color Temperatures

Linear fluorescent tube lights are available in a wide range of color temperature options, so it's important to understand to ensure you have consistent lighting across a space. Certain color temperatures are better for certain applications. We recommend light between 4000K and 5000K for work spaces like warehouses, offices, and garages since studies have shown these color temperatures can help reduce eye strain and increase productivity. The lower the Kelvin value, the more yellow the bulb's light will appear. The higher the Kelvin, the bluer the light.
