The Story of the 1739 Paris Portfolio Map:
Commissioned in 1734 by Michel-Etienne Turgot, this map was originally published in 1739, and the prints were bound in volumes offered to the King, the members of the Academy and the Municipality. The 21 engraved brass plates used to create it are still used to this day for reprinting, employing the same techniques used two centuries ago.
