LED PAR30 Long Neck Applications
PAR30 long neck bulbs are specially designed to fit in recessed can lights. Because they are a little smaller than 4 inches in diameter, they are perfect for 4 inch recessed can lights. If you have trouble changing out the bulbs in fixtures in high ceilings, you can use a bulb changer with suction cups or bulb changer heads.
For outdoor installations, you will either need bulbs UL listed for wet locations or the bulb needs to be rated for enclosed fixtures. Most PAR30 bulbs are UL listed for wet locations and do not require protection from the weather, but look for the Safety Rating in the Specifications of each product page to be sure. Many of our PAR30 long neck bulbs are also dimmable when paired with a compatible dimmer. Because not all LEDs work with all LED dimmers, each bulb has a Dimmer Compatibility PDF under Brochures & Spec Sheets so that you can make sure your new lights will work with your existing dimmers.
Equal to Watt?
PAR30 LED bulbs are an energy efficient replacement for halogen bulbs. To help you find the right replacement, this category is broken out by halogen wattage equivalent. For example, a 75 Watt equal PAR30 LED bulb may only use 11 Watts for over 85% energy savings. While the up-front cost of LEDs is higher than halogen bulbs, they need to be replaced far less frequently. Some PAR30 long neck bulbs last up to 40,000 hours. Even running eight hours a day, you wouldn't need to replace it for over thirteen years.
Beam Angles and Color Temperature
PAR30 long neck bulbs come in a variety of beam angles:
- Narrow Spot: less than 10 degree beam angle
- Spot: 15 degree beam angle
- Narrow Flood: 25 degree beam angle
- Flood: 36 degree beam angle
- Wide Flood: greater than 50 degree beam angle
These bulbs are also available in a variety of color temperatures. Unlike halogen bulbs which are only available around 3000 Kelvin, PAR30 LED bulbs can come in warmer, more yellow tones or a more stark white. The higher Kelvin temperatures appear crisper, brighter, and are on the blue end of the Kelvin scale. Lower Kelvin temperatures are warmer, closer to the light output from a halogen or incandescent bulbs. For landscape lighting, we recommend lights with a color temperature of 3000 Kelvin or lower. Higher Kelvin lights can make flowers, grass, and trees look unnatural. These cooler white color temperatures are better for statues and stonework. Recessed and ambient lighting should primarily use lower Kelvin bulbs, but display and track can be used with higher color temperatures.
High CRI LED PAR30 Long Neck Bulbs
CRI is a measure of how accurately the light displays colors compared to the midday sun. Lights with a higher CRI make colors appear more vibrant, especially reds. Any bulb with a CRI of 90 or higher is considered a high CRI bulb. These bulbs are recommended for museum lighting, art displays, retail, and other applications where seeing the true color is important. For accent lighting and landscape lighting, a CRI of 80 is not different enough for most people to want to spend the extra money on high CRI bulbs.
