MR16 LED Light Bulbs - GU5.3

MR16 LED Light Bulbs - GU5.3 Base

Multifaceted bulbs, or MR bulbs, were first introduced as halogen bulbs for use in slide projectors. However, they quickly gained popularity in track lighting, recessed lighting, and landscape lighting. These LED versions are designed to replace the traditional halogen MR16s while using a fraction of the energy to save you money on energy costs. LED MR16s also emit significantly less heat than halogen lamps. If you're trying to replace an MR lamp and aren't sure which size your need, simply measure the diameter of the bulb's face. MR16 bulbs are 16 eighths of an inch, or 2 inches in diameter. These LED MR16s have a GU5.3 base and are available in dimmable and non-dimmable options.

LED MR16 Color Temperature Options

These MR16 LED bulbs may be designed to replace halogens, but they are available in a much wider range of color temperatures. Color temperature, how warm or cold a light looks, is measured in Kelvin. The lower the Kelvin of a bulb is, the warmer and more yellow the light emitted will appear. The higher the Kelvin, the cooler and bluer the light. If you want to keep the look of your original MR16 without the higher energy costs and heat output, an MR16 LED that is 3000 Kelvin is the closest direct replacement for traditional halogens. Recessed and ambient lighting should primarily use lower Kelvin bulbs, but display and track can be used with higher color temperatures.

LED MR16 Beam Angle Options

LED MR16s can have a wide range of beam angles:

  • Narrow Spot: less than 10 degree beam angle
  • Spot: 15 degree beam angle
  • Narrow Flood: 25 degree beam angle
  • Flood: 36 degree beam angle
  • Wide Flood: greater than 50 degree beam angle

The smaller beam angles, like narrow spot and spot, are better suited for task and accent lighting, while the larger beam angles are typically used for more ambient illumination.
