Under Cabinet Lighting - Under Counter Lighting Fixtures

Introduction to Under Cabinet Lighting

One of the most valuable additions you can add to your kitchen, office space, or shelving is under cabinet lighting. Upgrading or installing new cabinet lighting is considered one of the easiest home renovations to increase your property value, especially if looking to stage your home for sale. Whether in the kitchen or office, under cabinet lighting provides evenly distributed light that adds ambient light and task lighting for when you're looking up a recipe or reading a report.

Types of Under Cabinet Lighting

LED

LED is the newest, most energy-efficient option for under cabinet lighting. LEDs use only 25% as much energy as xenon lights and half the energy of fluorescents. Because LED light bulbs also have a longer lifespan than other under cabinet lights, you will reduce the need for replacement bulbs and maintenance, yielding additional savings throughout the lifetime of the fixture.

LED under cabinet fixtures are wider than LED light bars, but the bars are interconnectable to give a uniform light distribution across a long stretch of counter space. Our LED fixtures have a lower, warmer color temperature, ideal for wood countertops and applications with rich color tones. If you have granite countertops and want the stark white of a more blue-white light, consider xenon under cabinet fixtures.

Though not part of a fixture like the under cabinet lights featured in this category, LED tape light is the easiest to install. The tape lights come with an adhesive backing; peel and place the lights along the rim of the cabinet. Strip lights come in several different colors and can be used to create a unique backsplash effect.

Fluorescent

This is a popular choice in kitchen cabinets and pantries, especially if you're wanting a budget-friendly energy efficient option. Fluorescent under cabinet lighting uses about half as many Watts as xenon lights to produce the same Lumens or amount of light. The downside to fluorescents is the relatively poor color rendering, which can make colors appear washed out. If you're primarily wanting task lights to help you chop onions or minimize eye strain from overhead lighting, these are a great option for you. If you're wanting to highlight a colored backsplash or artwork, we suggest LED under cabinet lights with a higher color rendering index or xenon lights instead.

Xenon

An older technology, xenon under cabinet fixtures are still valued for perfect color rendering. Xenon's clean, white light makes granite or marble countertops and backsplashes look their absolute best. Though they have the lowest up-front cost of any under cabinet option, xenon lights consume a large amount of energy, most of which is wasted as heat. If you pick xenon, don't keep flowers, fruits, or candies too close to the lights. Save energy by running the lights more like task lights, turning them on and off as needed rather than keeping them on all day.
