The mercury content of GE Ecolux lamps has been reduced by over 80% versus older traditional fluorescent lamp designs. To assure long life, advanced coating technologies have been developed to minimize the absorption of mercury within the lamp. Additionally, Ecolux lamps use an exclusive material design that helps to prevent the small amount of mercury in the lamp from forming mercury compounds which may leach into groundwater after lamp disposal.

Mercury containing products sold into the state of WA include an environmental handling charge of .25/each.

    F24W/T5/865/ECO - 24 Watt - T5 High Output - 6500K - 800 Series Phosphors - GE 46703 is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from defective and of poor quality I bought 6 of these for my aquariums and 4 failed within a month. Never had a problem before with my lights which have a plexiglass shield over them. I'm replacing them with plusrite t5s.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Horticultural purposes and General Purpose quality Anytime you get into specialized-task lighting the cost sky-rockets. Take a look at lights designed for use in aquariums or horticultural (plant growing) for two cases in point. I carefully examined the spectral distribution of all of the 2-feet, T5 High Output lamps that are commonly available. These 6500K lamps by GE have spikes in the Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) portion of the spectrum. Keep in mind, 6500K alone is not the answer, it how the portions of the spectrum are blended to create the color that is important for photosynthesis. After testing these out on a low-pressure aeroponics system, I have confirmed that they are working A+. Consider that these are 800 Series phosphors, which means that their Color Rendition Index is somewhere between 80-89. Plants do not care, but people may. This range for CRI is entirely acceptable for the majority of general purpose lighting. You would only need something higher if you had a specific need, and you will have to pay for that accurate CRI. I have been running these GE lamps in an overdriven configuration, so each lamp is actually being driven at 33 watts, versus their factory configuration of 24 watts. That is a 35% increase in lumens, par, et al - but all within the same space. These lamps handle this increase very easily. Currently, there is nothing available that will match these lamps for efficiency and delivery of lumens. LEDs may be there in the future. They are close, but these fluorescent lamps still hold the top spot. Further, when one considers the acquisition cost, and the total cost of ownership (energy used + replacement), these T5 HO are still the winner. (Note: as of March 2017). My review has focused on using this lamps for horticultural purposes, but their positive qualities apply to general purpose lighting also. Do not scrap your T5 HO fixtures and switch to LED, at least not yet. Get these lamps. They will last you potentially 8-12 years (or more, depending on your standards), and when they finally start to degrade, evaluate your new options at that time. Review by Chris Sandys, and I have NO conflict of interest with the manufacturer of these lamps.
