I had been buying a competitor's timer from Lowe's, but for some reason they stopped carrying the one with the astronomical clock and only had straight time-of-day timers. The "Daylight Savings" one didn't adjust for sunrise/sunset, just allowed the quick changing, by an hour, when needed.
This timer, however, does allow setting by latitude for sunrise/sunset, straight timer function or any combination thereof. I really don't see why anything but astronomical clocks would be stocked, every one I have used also allows straight timer. Why carry three products when one is universal?
On to the neutral situation. This clock does not require a neutral. It runs the clock and charges the lithium batteries by "bleeding" a little power through the timed device. Works great on porch lights and circuits with a constant load. One of my applications was for hard-wired outlets on my pillars for xmas lights. For ten and one half months there is no load, so the lithium battery didn't get charged and in fact discharged to the point where it failed and had to be replaced. I have resolved this problem by setting to "manual on" after xmas and using circuit for mowers, trimmers and blowers. Between non-switching between on and off and the little bit of charging when I am using power tools, the lithium battery stays charged.
Many switch boxes do not have a neutral in the junction box. This is when a timer such as this one is necessary. So the disadvantage becomes an advantage.
So my suggestion is to open up your switch box and see if there is a functional neutral (white) in the box. Many times the black is the load and the white is used to feed the device, so be sure to ring it out.

great features. easy to install. aesthetically pleasing. Lots of programming options. Unfortunately first programming can be a bit cumbersome, depending upon which program you select but one quickly becomes accustomed to the steps. Besides, you really only have to program once (reprogramming would be rare at best). Also itshould be noted that the only reason I can be petty about the programming is because so much thought was put into providing multiple programming options to the consumer. In fact, intermatic posts how to videos on their website as an added resource. That is proactive customer service!...something to be aspired for by other companies. No complaints whatsoever with this product. I had one for my landscape lights and bought two more. Highly recommend.
