Installation

Mounting Tips

Continuous flexing of rope light may damage its internal electrical connections. To avoid premature failure, mount rope light to sturdy surfaces such as wood or glass and reinforce it with a channel raceway or reflector trim of the correct diameter.

If you must install rope light on an unstable or moving surface such as trees or bushes, it is most cost-effective to use incandescent rope light, which can be replaced at a lower cost than LED rope light.

Movement of frozen rope lights may also damage electrical connections. Avoid installing or re-spooling rope light when temperatures are below freezing. The PVC tubing can become brittle in temperatures below 50 deg. F.

Note on UL Listing and Installation Safety

Please note that cutting this rope light, even following manufacturer instructions, will void the UL listing of the product. This, however, does not necessarily mean the product is unsafe.

If UL listing is an important concern for you or your organization either use the full length of the spool without cutting it or consider purchasing our shorter rope light "kits".

While 1000Bulbs.com encourages all creative use of rope lights, we assume no responsibility for problems arising from cutting rope light. Professional installation is always recommended.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rope light was easy to use and install This was a great product for our home theater, pool table room and bathroom. The rope was easy to install. I used the regular rope so we could utilize the dimming capability. October 5, 2011
Rated 1 out of 5 by Product is poorly made Very dissapointed in this product. The 150' rope has developed 3 or more dead spots after just a couple of weeks of use. It does not seem to be of same quality as previous purchases. January 20, 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice warm accent lighting I use this rope lighting behind crown moulding that I lower down about one half inch from the ceiling. Nice effect. June 2, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Lights great perfect color and fast to arrive. This product we have ordered many times and every time has had nothing but a perfect product and it is exactly what we wanted. February 26, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 Easy to install, cut, and terminate. I ran a string of this around the ceiling perimeter of my home theater. It looks stunning and was simple to cut as well as easy to connect the power cords provided with the spool. July 1, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Stuff! I bought this spool to replace the three 18 foot rope lights I had strung around my deck railing. I liked that this rope light uses less electricity than my old set, it's just 3/8" in diameter, I could have all the light I want without splices, and the 150' spool cost only a few bucks more than three 17-footers from Home Depot. Now I had never cut rope light before, and the white printing on the rope can be tough to see (so you don't have ugly black printing on your rope). But if you pay close attention and cut on the dashes, it's actually pretty easy especially if you're only adding end caps. Because of an error on my part, I did need one splice. Splicing seemed trickier, but once I looked at the pins on splice connector that made me suddenly see where the two leads actually are in the rope, and it all made sense. Once I got the rope light installed, I couldn't be happier. It used less electricity (according to the package), it's smaller in diameter, and yet it's brighter than my old rope lights. And because I was able to afford 150', I was able to string another 60' under the rain gutters on the house. It looks fantastic! I do recommend the channel raceways, since they make the lines perfectly straight -- no sags or bends where you don't want them. The raceways are a little difficult to work with because the plastic is brittle and will shatter if you aren't careful when cutting or putting screws in, but the results are great. I highly recommend this rope light spool! June 30, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for undercabinet lighting Product does a great job for accent lighting undercabinets with the track accessory. Also does not have the heat that most incandescent undercabinet lighting systems have. June 30, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easy to install and a great value The rope light was delivered quickly and was very easy to install. The web page gives very good instructions how best to install and shows exactly what accessories and fittings are needed. I comparison shopped and 1000 Bulbs .com had the best price by far.
