Upgrade your parking lot lighting with LED parking lot lights. Also known as LED area lights, LED roadway lighting, or LED shoebox lights, these advanced lighting solutions offer numerous benefits that go beyond traditional lighting options.
Virtually Eliminate Ongoing Maintenance
With LED parking lot lights, you can say goodbye to frequent maintenance headaches. These lights are designed to stay bright for up to an impressive 100,000 hours of continuous operation. Even if you run them for 12 hours a day, that's over 22 years of reliable illumination without the need for frequent bulb replacements or maintenance. This long lifespan makes LED area lights a perfect choice for a wide range of applications, including college campuses, shopping malls, residential parks, hospital grounds, commercial parking lots, car dealerships, and more.
Consistent Light Quality
Unlike High-Intensity Discharge (HID) systems, which often fade quickly and develop a yellow tint over time, LED parking lot lights maintain their color temperature for years. This means you can enjoy consistent, high-quality light for an extended period. The crisp and vibrant illumination provided by LED technology not only enhances visibility and safety, but also contributes to a more welcoming and aesthetically appealing outdoor space.
Investing in LED shoebox fixtures not only ensures longer-lasting and higher-quality lighting but also delivers significant energy savings, reduced maintenance costs, and improved sustainability. By making the switch to LED lighting, you can take advantage of advanced lighting technology that offers remarkable longevity and superior performance.
Mounting and Control Options for LED Parking Lot Lights
When considering LED roadway lights, it's important to note that they may come with a mount or without, providing you with various installation options tailored to your specific needs. Two of the most common mounts for commercial parking lot lights are slipfitters and yokes. Slipfitter mounts offer greater flexibility and control over installation and light distribution due to their broader range of adjustable angles, unlike stationary arms. Additionally, you can explore other available mounting options for commercial parking lot lights, such as mounting arms, bullhorns, trunnion mounts, and tenons, to further customize the installation based on the layout and lighting requirements of your outdoor space.
In addition to selecting the right mount for your LED parking lot pole lights, you can enhance their functionality by connecting them to timers or photocells for convenient and efficient dusk to dawn illumination. This not only provides increased energy efficiency but also ensures that your outdoor area is well-lit when it's needed the most.
It's crucial to note that when integrating LED commercial parking lot lights with photo controls, it's essential to ensure that the photocell is compatible with LED products. Using a conventional system that is not LED-compatible can result in premature failure of the parking lot lights or the photocell. In some cases, the photo control may not even recognize the LED area light, causing it to fail in controlling the lights effectively. This applies to all LED outdoor lighting fixtures.
By carefully selecting the mounting options and control accessories for your LED parking lot lights, you can optimize their performance and longevity while achieving significant energy and maintenance savings.
Types of Parking Lot Light Distributions
1000Bulbs.com offers LED shoebox lights with a variety of light distributions, ranging from Type II to Type V:
- Type II - This distribution delivers a beam with a 25-degree lateral width. It is commonly used for lights mounted on the side of small side streets in residential areas, entrance roadways, and jogging paths.
- Type III - Similar to Type II, this distribution delivers a beam with a 40-degree lateral width, making it perfect lighting roadways and general parking areas.
- Type V - This distribution produces a circular light with the same intensity at all angles. It is ideal lighting solution for large, open areas like intersections and large outdoor parking lots that need powerful illumination.
LED Parking Lot Light FAQs
Here are a few of the most frequently asked questions about parking lot lighting.
What are LED parking lot lights?
- LED shoebox fixtures are directional LED lights designed to be mounted on poles to illuminate larger, outdoor areas such as parking lots and streets. Unlike traditional lighting options, these LED lights have no bulbs to replace and use less energy.
Can you use photocells with parking lot lights?
- Yes, LED parking lot lights can be easily controlled with photocontrols or photocells. These devices allow the lights to automatically turn on or off based on the ambient light levels, optimizing energy usage and ensuring the lights are only on when needed.
How many lumens do I need for LED parking lot lights?
- For LED roadway lights, the lumens needed will depend on how much space you are needed to light. For example, for an area that is 15 to 20 feet, you would need between 16,000 to 20,000 lumens on average. Larger areas will require LED lights with higher lumens. For help determining how many lumens you need for your specific application, please call 1-800-624-4488 to speak with one of our lighting experts.
How many footcandles do I need for LED parking lot lights?
Footcandle requirements will vary depending on variety of factors, including the size of the lot, what it is being using for, and any local regulations or requirements. On average, an open parking lot may only need 2 to 5 footcandles, while a supermarket parking lot will need between 25 to 100 footcandles.
Why are the lumens for the HID fixture I’m replacing higher than the recommended LED parking lot light replacement?
- The initial lumens of HID lights will be higher, however these lights are less energy efficient. Most of the initial lumens will be lost inside the fixture due to the bulbs not being directional, plus the lumens quickly depreciate over time. LED lights, on the other hand, are directional and do not loose as much light over time. This allows them to deliver the same amount of light as HID fixtures with fewer lumens.
Are there different color temperature options for LED parking lot lights?
- Yes, LED parking lot lights come in various Kelvin options, including warm while (3000K), cool white (4000K), and daylight (5000K). 2200 Kelvin fixtures are also available if you wish for the light output of your LED fixtures to match the look of high pressure sodium (HPS) light. The choice of color temperature depends on the desired lighting ambiance and specific requirements of the parking lot or outdoor area.
Do you carry light poles for parking lot lights?
We do not currently have poles available online, however customer service may be able to place a special order. Please call 1-800-624-4488.
Do LED parking lot fixtures require a lot of maintenance?
- No. LED lights have a longer lifespan than traditional lights, reducing the frequency of bulb replacements. This translates to lower maintenance costs and less downtime for replacing lights.
Are LED parking lot lights environmentally friendly?
- Yes, LED parking lot lighting is environmentally friendly. Using significantly less energy than traditional metal halide fixtures, emitting less heat, and containing no hazardous materials, these LED lights have a reduced carbon footprint. The majority of their light is also aim straight down at the ground, helping reduce light pollution.
Are rebates available for LED parking lot lights?
- Many utility companies and government programs offer incentives and rebates for upgrading to highly energy efficient LED lighting, including LED area lights. It is worth checking with local utility providers or energy efficiency programs to see if there are any available incentives in your area.
How long do LED parking lot lights last?
- Life hours will vary between fixtures and brands, however many parking lot light fixtures can last upwards of 100,000 hours.
What are the different mount types for parking lot lights?
Our parking lot lights can be used with a wide range of mounts, including slipfitters, yokes, trunnions, mounting arms, and tenons. If your LED parking lot light does not already come with a mount, be sure that the compatibility of the mount you select. In order to be compatible, mount must be from the same families as the LED parking lot lighting. Families include Benbrook, Bradford, Excel, and Grandview.
Do mounts come with LED parking lot lights, or are they sold separately?
- Some LED street and parking lights do come with a mount included, while others do not. When selecting a mount for parking lot lights, make sure that they are from a compatible family. Families include Bradford, Grandview, Benbrook, and Excel.
Are LED parking lot lights weather resistant?
Yes, most LED area lights are designed to be weatherproof. Most of the parking lot lighting we offer is IP65 rated, meaning it is dust tight and protected against water jets from any angle.
