Wall Pack/Area Light LED Retrofit Lamps

Upgrade to energy efficient LED lighting while keeping your existing HID wall packs or shoebox fixtures by retrofitting them with these LED retrofit lamps. Designed specifically for use in wall packs and shoebox fixtures, these lamps are an excellent choice for upgrading older outdoor light fixtures that use metal halide, high-pressure sodium, or mercury vapor lamps. These lamps are ideal for illuminating large areas, such as parking lots, building exteriors, and walkways, where visibility and safety are important.

What Are Wall Pack and Shoebox LED Retrofit Lamps?

LED retrofit lamps for wall packs and area lights are similar to LED corn bulbs, having rows of LED diodes running the length of the bulb. What sets them apart from other retrofit bulbs, however, is that these lamps provide directional light output. All of the LED diodes are on one side of the lamp, meaning that 100-percent of the light output is aimed out of the fixture. No light lost inside the fixture. This ensures that these retrofits provide bright, even light that enhances visibility and safety.

These retrofits are available in two distinct types: bulbs and driver/panel kits. Bulbs can have either a cylindrical shape or a flatter shape similar to a paddle. They can be used in either wall packs or shoeboxes. Driver/panel kits are for use in shoebox fixtures, and come with an LED driver that screws into the bulb socket (after the ballast has been bypassed) and an LED panel that is permanently attached to the lens.

Benefits of Retrofitting

LED retrofit lamps for wall packs and area lights provide a wide range of benefits. Older HID technologies are known for their high energy consumption, short lifespan, and poor color rendering, making them less effective for outdoor lighting applications. These retrofit LED lamps, however, are extremely energy efficient to help reduce energy costs. Along with their exceptional energy savings, their longer lifespan helps reduce maintenance and replacement costs. These lamps also provide improved color quality to improve visibility.

One of the biggest benefits of LED retrofit lamps is that they require the removal (or bypassing) of the ballast the ballast during installation. Once the ballast is removed, the fixture is rewired so that the LED lamp operates directly off of the fixture's line voltage. By bypassing the ballast, you are removing a potential failure point from the fixtures, as well as reducing the overall system wattage. Bypassing also eliminates ballast maintenance costs and any potential compatibility issues.

Color Temperature and Size Options

These LED retrofit lamps are available in a variety of color temperature and size options. Color temperatures can range from 3000K (natural white light) up to 5000K (similar to daylight). Some lamps are selectable, allowing you to select the desired color and lumen output during installation via switches built into the lamps.

Bulb size will vary depending on the wattage, making it important to pay attention to the dimensions. Bulbs with higher wattages tend to run larger, and some lamps may also have minimum lamp compartment restrictions. We strongly recommend measuring the inside of your fixtures to ensure that there is adequate space for the new bulb and any kit components.
