Complete Grow Light Kits
Are you setting up your first grow light kit or looking to replace an older system? Take a look at our grow light kits. Each includes a reflector, ballast, and power cords. They are ready to go right out of the box and just need to be suspended plugged in. Grow light systems can be used indoors, in grow tents, and in greenhouses. We carry kits from top brands, including HydroFarm and Sunlight Supply.
Why Type of Grow Light Do I Need
The traditional grow light kits for indoor plants are metal halide (MH) and high pressure sodium (HPS) kits. These grow light systems are easy to use, making them a good choice for someone who is just getting stated with indoor growing. The typical mounting height for these grow light kits is 18 to 24 inches above the plants, but you can adjust it higher if your plant is more sensitive to heat.
Metal halide (MH) systems are primarily used for plants in the vegetative stage. MH bulbs produce a blue light that is similar to light during the spring. High pressure sodium (HPS) systems are better for plants in the flowering stage since the red light produced by HPS bulbs is similar to that of summer. We carry MH grow light kits that can use both MH and HPS lamps, while other kits can use only one or the other.
An alternative to MH grow light kits is ceramic metal halide (CMH) grow lights. CMH bulbs produce a blue light that is similar to daylight color temperature to promote growth. CMH bulbs that emit a 3100 Kelvin light are used for budding and flowering, while bulbs with a 4200 Kelvin light output is ideal for the vegetative stage. The bulbs themselves are easy to change out as they simply twist and lock into place.
CMH complete grow light systems have several benefits:
- They are very energy efficient compared to MH and HPS systems, making them a better replacement options.
- CMH lamps generate less heat, allowing the fixture to be mounted closer to the plants at a height of 8 to 12 inches.
- CMH digital ballasts produce low frequency waves, which should cause no EMI (electromagnetic interference) issues.
If you are looking for a higher crop yield, you may want to consider a double-ended system. Double-ended systems operate using a double-ended HPS lamp that deliver more Lumens (measurement of light output) per square foot than other systems, making these 1000 Watt grow light kits better suited for use in large areas like greenhouses. They are suspended between 3 to 4 feet over the plants, and typically light 20 to 30 square feet.
Many double-ended complete grow light systems have options to allow you adjust the wattage, dimming the light output, or link up multiple systems. Some are also designed without any moving parts, allowing the fixture to be completely silent when operating. Double-ended HPS bulbs degrade much more slowly compared to regular HPS bulbs, reducing the need for replacements.
Grow Light Kit Accessories
Set up can be made a lot easier with the help of accessories. General hanging systems can be used interchangeably with our systems and can hold up to 75 lbs. per hanger. Gravita Pro accessories are designed to be used with Gravita Pro series grow light kits from Sunlight Supply. Ballast connection cables are also available in various lengths, reflectors, and controllers.
Helpful Tips
Finding the right grow light kit can be a little challenging, so here are a few helpful tips:
- Always check to see what is included in the kits, as not all systems include bulbs or hanging accessories.
- Is your MH or HPS system is making your growing area a little too warm? Adding a small fan nearby can help.
- Double-ended systems generate a high amount of excess heat and may require additional cooling systems.
